How to Set Up Google Business Profile (and Why It's Free Marketing)
If your business serves customers in a specific area and you don't have a Google Business Profile, you're invisible in the moment that matters most: when someone nearby searches for what you sell.
What it gets you
A verified profile puts your business on Google Maps with one-tap directions, shows your hours, photos, products and reviews directly in search results, and lets customers call or message you without ever visiting your website.
Setting it up
- Claim your profile at business.google.com with your business name and category.
- Verify your address — usually by postcard, sometimes instantly by phone or email.
- Complete every field. Hours, service area, phone, website, attributes. Complete profiles get significantly more clicks.
- Add photos of your workplace, team and products — listings with photos get more direction requests and website visits.
- List your products and services with prices where possible.
- Collect reviews. Ask every happy customer, and reply to every review — good or bad.
Keep it alive
Google rewards active profiles. Post updates or offers weekly, keep hours accurate around holidays, and answer questions in the Q&A section before someone else does.
